Diatomaceous Earth

Food Grade Diatomaceous Earth is safe for all human uses as well as for animals.  It is used as a detox or cleanse from parasites and heavy metals.  Using DE regularly can help strengthen artery walls (because of the high content of amorphous silica) thus lowering cholesterol levels.

DE is a great way to nurture the body with silica as it is a common deficit in the diets of today.

But there is much confusion as to what the difference is between Food Grade and Pool Grade DE.  So here it is in simple form.

Pool Grade DE VS Food Grade DE

Pool Grade DE is treated with very high heat defined as calcined.  This turns the silicon dioxide that is present in the DE into crystalline silica.  Pool Grade DE contains high concentration of crystalline silica that can range from 60 to 70% crystalline silica.

Crystalline silica is very dangerous and can be harmful to the health of humans and animals.  For this reason, Pool Grade DE should NOT be used for any purpose other than filtration.

When is Silica Crystalline a Hazard?

Materials that contain crystalline silica are not hazardous unless they are disturbed, generating small-sized particles that can get in your lungs (“respirable crystalline silica”).  For example, blasting, cutting, chipping, drilling and grinding materials that contain silica can result in silica dust that is hazardous for construction workers and others to breathe

Inhaling crystalline silica can lead to serious, sometimes fatal illnesses including silicosis, lung cancer, tuberculosis (in those with silicosis), and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).  Silicosis is a disabling, irreversible, and sometimes fatal lung disease.

What is Silica?

Silica is one of the most common naturally occurring elements on the planet. Silica, the mineral compound silicon dioxide (SiO2), is found in two forms -- crystalline or noncrystalline (also referred to as amorphous). Sand and quartz are common examples of crystalline silica.

How is DE prepared for Food Grade?

DE is a naturally occurring substance and can be found as large chunks of rock-like material.  These chunks of rocks are brought back from the deposit where they are ground up in to various granulations.  This is due to the fact that different granulations are effective for different purposes.

After the rock is ground up it is washed and dried at specific temperatures in order to prevent it from becoming (calcined) as defined above.

What is Diatomaceous Earth?

DE is the fossilized shells of microscopic water-dwelling organisms known as diatoms.  Diatoms are one celled plants (algae or phytoplankton) that are the primary food source for marine life.  These plants have been part of the earth’s ecology since prehistoric times, yet their species still exists today in both salty and fresh waters all over the world.

Diatoms use soluble Silica (sand) from their environment to make their shells.  As diatoms die, their shells fall to the bottom of the bodies of water in which they live.  Thick beds of chalky fossilized sediment is accumulated which are known as diatomite or diatomaceous earth and are found after the waters have receded.

Today, there are hundreds of large deposits of DE all over the world and some are still underwater and found in ancient dried lake bottoms.

DE is mined and ground into a powder that looks and feels like talcum powder.

What are the benefits of DE?

It’s all about the Silica

Food-grade Diatomaceous earth is composed of approximately 85% silica.  It works like a natural detoxifying agent with in the body, killing parasites and viruses that can contribute to illnesses while also helping to clean the blood.  It’s also inexpensive, simple to use and much safer than many store-bought detox products or plans.  Food was the primary source of Naturally-Occurring Silica before modern farming practices depleted the soil.  it is suggested that only 1/3 of the silica we need is available in natural, plant-based foods.

Here are some benefits from DE

Improves Bone Health and Stop Osteoporosis

Repairs damaged bones and diminish scarring at the location of a fracture.

Speeds healing

Improve Heart and Lung Health

Stop Premature Wrinkling and Sagging Skin

Keeps Tendons and Ligaments for health and flexibility

Cleanses and detoxifies the body from eating processed foods

DE can purge any parasite, virus, bacteria, or toxin that is clinging to our digestive tract.

It's Great for pets!

DE can eliminate roundworms, whipworms, pinworms and hookworms within seven days of being fed daily.

To be most effective, DE should be fed for at least 30 days to catch newly hatching eggs for the cycling pf the worms through the lungs and back to the stomach.

It can be used for external control of bugs and fleas by dusting the DE on the coat, or bed, carpeted areas.

More health benefits for pets:

Used as a dewormer

Shiny healthy coats

Healthy Skin

Healthy gums and teeth

Healthy bones, muscles, and ligaments

Speeds healing of injuries

Aids in digestion and so much more!
